Places to Stay
As a traveler, there are few things as important as finding a great place to stay. Whether you’re in town for a quick visit or planning to stay for a while, you want to be sure that your accommodations are comfortable and convenient. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Atlanta, you’re in luck. There are plenty of great options, ranging from cozy bed and breakfasts to modern hotels. So what’s the best place for you? That depends on what you’re looking for.
For our weekend away in Atlanta, we chose an Airbnb near the Atlanta Beltline, in Reynoldstown. It was a great location for us, easy to explore the city, and had great restaurant choices close by.
Some other great choices are staying Downtown, close to the Aquarium and the Coca-Cola Museum, staying in Midtown, close to the Botanic Gardens and Piedmont Park, or the Little Five Points area, an area known for its art and creativity. Here are a few great options for your stay:
The Candler Hotel Atlanta, Curio Collection by Hilton – This beautiful hotel is in a historic building located on Peachtree St in downtown Atlanta. If you’re looking for a little bit of history and luxury in Atlanta, this is the place to stay. It has awe-inspiring views of the city and little details that make your stay unforgettable.
Loews Atlanta Hotel – This modern hotel in midtown offers great service in addition to great amenities. With a bar and restaurant on-site as well as access to a gym and spa, you have everything you need for an amazing stay. This hotel also is close to Piedmont Park and the public transit system in Atlanta, MARTA.
This VRBO is located in Little Five Points – You and your friends can enjoy the eclectic neighborhood shops or hit up some of Atlanta’s best restaurants while still being close enough for quick access to everything this city has going on! This three-bedroom house features two bathrooms, and an outdoor seating area, it’s a win for everyone in your group.
Things to Do in Atlanta
Atlanta, Georgia is a city with something for everyone. From the exciting nightlife of Midtown to the historic attractions of Downtown, there is no shortage of things to see and do. If you’re looking for ideas for a great weekend getaway, here are just a few of the many possibilities Atlanta has to offer.
The Georgia Aquarium – With more than 10 million gallons of water, it is one of the largest aquariums in the world. There are also more than 500 species of animals to see, making it a perfect place for an afternoon outing. We were blown away by the sheer size of this aquarium, it looks like a mall when you enter. This has been on our bucket list to visit for a while and it did not disappoint!
The World of Coca-Cola – This museum offers a behind-the-scenes look at the history of one of the world’s most popular brands. Visitors can learn about the bottling process, see vintage advertisements, and even sample some of the more than 100 different types of Coke that are produced around the world.
The Atlanta Zoo – The Atlanta Zoo is home to over 1,000 animals from around the world, making it a great place to learn about different species. They are also one of the only zoos in the US to have Giant Pandas. The zoo also has a variety of educational programs and events that are great for visitors. We did one of the programs they offered on our last visit, interacting with elephants. It was an awesome experience, learning about how the zoo cares for elephants as well as getting to feed one. I recommend signing up for one of these experiences if your budget allows. If you’re looking for something a little more active, the zoo also offers a variety of walking trails that wind through the park.
Great Places to Eat
For a great weekend away filled with good food, Atlanta is the perfect destination. With a diverse range of culinary options, there’s something to please every palate. For Southern comfort food lovers, the city offers updated classics like shrimp and grits, fried chicken, and peach cobbler. Those looking for international flavors will find no shortage of excellent Mexican, Vietnamese, and Ethiopian restaurants. And of course, no trip to Atlanta would be complete without indulging in a plate of fresh seafood. From upscale restaurants to casual eateries, Atlanta has it all when it comes to great places to eat. So whether you’re in the mood for a gourmet meal or a simple bite on the go, you’ll be sure to find what you’re looking. Here are some great places to get you started:
Bacchanalia – This is probably one of the best meals I have ever had, it was so incredible. They have a prix fixe menu with four courses. You order one dish from each course at the beginning of your experience and then enjoy your meal for the next few hours. The food was all thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The standout dishes for me were the Crab Fritter and the Lamb course, which Randy ordered but I stole a fair amount of because it was so good. This place was quite pricey but was one of the highlights of our visit to Atlanta.
Joy Cafe – This cafe is located in downtown Atlanta and is a great stop for breakfast. The menu is southern cuisine focused and the biscuits and pimentos and cheese are standouts here. There are many biscuits served in Atlanta, but these are some of the best, flaky and fluffy, and delicious. I recommend the Southern Breakfast Biscuit, it was everything I was looking for in a Southern-style breakfast.
Krog Street Market – This is a great little food hall, where there is something for everyone. The standout here was the Szechuan fries at Gu’s Dumplings. They were so unexpected and unique in flavor, I still think about them. The dumplings here are amazing as well. Also delicious are pastries at the Little Tart Bakeshop, so many great options to chose from. I also always love jenni’s ice cream, they always have fun and unexpected flavors to choose from.
